Veterans Day and Operation Homefront

Back for the second year, Great Plains Communications is raising money for Operation Homefront. Starting on Veterans Day (November 11, 2017), we will share the graphic below on our Facebook page and will donate $1 for every like with a maximum of $1,000.

With the mission, “Build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities that they’ve worked so hard to protect,” Operation Homefront is a nonprofit organization serving America’s military families. They strive to provide RELIEF through Critical Financial Assistance and transitional housing programs, which covers things from utility payments to food assistance or auto insurance. They look to provide RESILIENCY through permanent housing and caregiver support services, including two deeded houses to local Nebraska families this year. And they offer RECURRING FAMILY SUPPORT programs and services, including backpack programs and their current partnership with Dollar Tree. Operation Homefront is in the process of providing holiday toys to military/veteran families across Nebraska through their partnership with Dollar Tree. The collection continues through December 7th at each of their store locations.

We are excited and honored to highlight an organization such as Operation Homefront for a second year. If you would like to learn more about them or current needs (e.g. provide a holiday meal for a military or wounded veteran family) go to

Supporting Local Veterans With Operation Homefront

In our previous social campaign, Great Plains Communications worked to raise awareness for the organization Operation Homefront by offering to donate $1 for every “like” we received on our Facebook post. Thanks to an abundance of support, we received 802 likes equaling $802. We want to thank everyone who liked and shared our post to further help us in our goal. To show our appreciation, Great Plains Communications would like to round out our donation to $1,000 to Operation Homefront. With a commitment from the organization, we have been notified that the full $1,000 will be used right here in our great state of Nebraska to help local veterans in need.

Some examples of ways donations are used:

  • Pay the electric bill of a military family
  • Help a warrior transition to civilian life
  • Help keep essential vehicle rolling
  • Pay for critical baby items
  • Help with rent and mortgage payments

Again we would like to thank everyone for their support in spreading awareness for our campaign, and we would like to give an even bigger thank you to the men and women who have and are currently serving our country.

Operation Homefront Social Campaign

This year, along with our Support Our Troops program, Great Plains Communications is doing a social campaign to help raise money and awareness for the organization, Operation Homefront. We not only want to thank the men and women who have sacrificed their lives for our country, but want to help where there is a constant need for assistance. Operation Homefront donates 92% of expenditures to building strong, stable and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities that they’ve worked so hard to protect.

According to their website, in 2015 Operation Homefront placed 92 families in mortgage-free homes, gave $4.2 million in emergency assistance, provided 32,906 military children with holiday toys, and so much more.

We understand there is need all over the United States, including our state of Nebraska. So far in 2016, Operation Homefront has donated $2,290.58 towards auto payment and insurance, $4,995 for rent and mortgage, and other needs totaling $15,534.04 specifically provided to Nebraska military families.

By simply going to our Facebook page and liking our post shown in the graphic below, your like will be turned into a dollar that Great Plains Communications will donate to Operation Homefront at the end of the month (maximum donation $1,000). Help us help those who made the sacrifice for our country.
