Severe Weather Week Tips

How do you know it’s spring in Nebraska? Last night, March 23, 2016 the following were issued simultaneously throughout the state: Tornado Watch, Winter Storm Watch, Winter Storm Warning, and Severe Thunderstorm Watch. It’s Severe Weather Week, and Great Plains Communications wants to provide some important tips and procedures to help keep you and your loved ones safe during severe weather situations.

We provide local Weather on Channel 2 through GPC-TV, bringing you 24/7 access to up-to-date weather information. Weather on Channel 2 tracks weather at the national and local level via advanced satellite imaging along with the five-day forecast.

One of the most important factors to sever weather safety is understanding and receiving up-to-date warnings, such as the ones issued last night. Are you in a Watch or a Warning, and what does that mean for you?

Watch

A watch is just that, when the conditions are favorable for the development of severe weather and should continue to be tracked. At this time, it would be best to take precautions and make sure you have supplies prepared should bad weather arise.

Warning

When a warning is issued, severe weather is either occurring or impending. A this point, you should immediately take action to protect yourself, your family and your property.

To keep you updated, GPC-TV’s Weather on Channel 2 uses an easy to understand color guide alert in the case of severe weather. The feature will shift the general color of the channel to yellow if there is a watch issued in the area, and to red if there is a severe thunderstorm or tornado warning.

You must be a Great Plains Communications Cable subscriber to have access to GPC-TV and Weather on Channel 2. Check the GPC-TV website for a list of communities with Weather on Channel 2 availability. If you would like to sign-up or have additional questions, call our Customer Response Center at 1-855-853-1483, and a representative would be happy to help you.

Stay safe and happy spring!

Thank you, Veterans – From Great Plains Communications

Tomorrow is the day we honor the men and women who work a cubicle over from us, who check us out at the grocery store and those who continue to put on the uniform. Veterans Day is about looking to those who have served and are currently serving our country, recognizing and honoring everything they have put on the line for the freedom we stand upon each day. Great Plains Communications would like to say thank you to all the service men and women in our communities and our company.

To show our appreciation, we continue the tradition of our Support Our Troops Program and Veterans Day programming on GPC-TV. Throughout the day, we will be sharing stories, pictures and service dates of current and retired military members on GPC-TV, channel 2 (click here to see if GPC-TV is available in your viewing area), and on the Great Plains Communications Facebook page.

If you have served or have a loved one serving, please let us know in the comments on Facebook. Share a picture, a story or even just simply a name and service dates. Great Plains Communications is an avid supporter of the military and would love to show our appreciation for your service by including you in our Veterans Day tribute.

Help National Honor Society Students Shine on GPC-TV

As the school year is coming to a close, Great Plains Communications wants to take a moment to honor the academic achievements of the students in our community high schools. We understand the hard work and dedication these students have put forth in reaching their goals, as May approaches. To show our respect and honor, we will be featuring the students who have achieved membership into the National Honor Society on our local channel, GPC-TV. The acknowledgement will be in the form of a slideshow with student names, images and High School names.

If you have a special student in your life who has become part of NHS, fill out the information and upload a picture at www.gpcom.com/nhs by March 31st. From there, all you have to do is watch for your entry on GPC-TV and know we are just as proud of them.

We encourage you to inform your NHS students about our recognition slideshow, and spread the word to other proud parents.

Ponca High School won the $500 grand prize and an additional $150 for the number of games they submitted.  Ponca submitted 34 of the 140 videos that we received during the contest. We gave out $1,000 to schools during the contest.

The contest helps us bring more local high school sporting events to our communities, which is some of the most popular programming on GPC-TV.  If you haven’t seen your school’s games on our channel, make sure to encourage them to send in their replays!  You can find out more about GPC-TV at www.gpctv.net.
