  • Our Pick Your Promo deal: OK, so this one is a gift for you.  When you sign-up for any new service with Great Plains Communications, you can get free installation or six months free on a wireless router.  So, if you are ready for HD Cable or a brand new Cable package, you can get it installed free!  Don’t miss out, this deal ends soon.

Now is the Right Time for a Wireless Network!

Are you still debating on setting up a wireless network in your home?  Well, we are making your decision much easier with our new Pick Your Promo campaign!  Right now, when you add a new service, you can pick between a Wireless Router FREE for six months or FREE Installation.

A wireless router is what allows for your fiber-based Internet connection to be used anywhere in your home without an Ethernet connection.  The router takes your home, wire-based Internet connection and allows that signal to be available over-the-air throughout your entire home.  Just imagine being able to view your favorite shows on your tablet while working in the garage or getting advice about making the perfect snowman while playing in the backyard.

What’s even better about a wireless connection in your home is that nearly every cellular device you own can be connected to your home Wi-Fi connection.  That means you can use your cell phone to stream YouTube videos, share photos, and get online without going over your cellular plan’s super-low data cap.  Given that Great Plains Communications offers it’s Cable customers on-the-go content from nearly two dozen channels, including BTN2GO, that’s a really big deal!

Setting up a home Wi-Fi connection doesn’t have to be hard.  In fact, if you get your router from Great Plains Communications, we can even help you set it up and get your new network working perfectly.

If you want to find out more about the benefits of a home wireless network, read our Q&A series, here.  If you have any other questions, let us know in the comments section below!

The Great Tech Video Contest’s First Great Video!

Have you seen our first video submission from our Great Tech Video Contest?  It was submitted by the Chadron office of Western Community Health Resources, which is a department of Chadron Community Hospital.  You may remember that Chadron featured one of our winners from our “do the BUNDLE” video contest, so the hospital is in great company!

While we’re not going to give away everything about the video (you have to watch!), we will let you know that this video is our early favorite featuring one of our favorite techs, Mike Reitcheck.   These creative folks are now in the running to win one of three fantastic prizes; a Samsung tablet, a brand new HDTV, or a GoPro Video Camera.  You can check out the prizes here.

Joining the contest is easy and fun!  Just take a video of your best story about how a Great Plains Communications technician went above and beyond for you. Then upload the video to YouTube and let us know.  Full rules and guidelines can be found on the Great Plains Communications Great Tech Contest Site.

You still have a month to enter, but don’t delay!  May 31st will sneak up on you faster than you might imagine.   Have any questions about the contest?  Let us know in the comments section below!

Cable Alert: New Show Takes on Oscar Winning Character

Normally, we reserve our new show recommendations for the start of each new TV season, however, we couldn’t ignore NBC’s middle-of-the-season debut of Hannibal.

The show is a prequel to the Academy Award Winning film Silence of the Lambs. It revolved around the time that Hannibal Lecter worked for the FBI and is a stunning new twist on the traditional cop drama.   The show features a wave of new and established talent and will be bringing in various guest stars including Gillian Anderson of X-Files fame.

If you need to find your local NBC affiliate, you can check out our channel guides.  Just search by your town name!

We would love to hear what you think about the show!  Love it, hate it?  Let us know in the comments section below.

Join Us in Making the Smart Choice for Cable Viewing

Recently, the American Cable Association undertook an initiative to inform parents about the many tools
that can help them manage what their children see on television and at the movies.

We’re joining them and many other entertainment groups and Cable companies in the national
conversation about violence prevention and behavior.  We want to remind viewers that every show has a
rating system that indicates the level of maturity and type of potentially offensive material the show includes.

These ratings are as follows:

Brand New Channel Provides a Better Experience in McCook

Our customers in McCook can now watch their favorite NBC shows in high-definition with a super-stable network feed.

The more stable NBC HD channel, KHAS out of Hastings, is due to the use of a direct studio feed rather than an over-the-air signal.  Over-the-air signals are more likely to be affected by temperature and other weather conditions.  The new NBC HD joins direct feed high definition versions of CBS, ABC, and FOX.

We’re very excited to be able to bring all the best of NBC to our customers in the best version possible!  KHAS will air on channel 494 in McCook.  Not a McCook resident?  You can find your channel lineup right on our website!

The Best New Comedies of the Fall Season

Animal Practice

Debuts Wednesday on September 26th

This new NBC offering provides what no other show this fall can:  a monkey driving a mini ambulance.  Set in a veterinarian hospital, Animal Practice is about a surly vet who treats the animals better than the humans and ends up needing help keeping the doors open.

Go On

Debuts Monday, September 11th at 9/8 c

We’re really pulling for Matthew Perry’s new comedy.  While he’s still playing the same neurotic character that we saw in Mr. Sunshine, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Friends; it’s a character that we’ve grown to love.  The series is set after Perry’s character is sent to an uncertified therapy group after his wife died.

Ben and Kate

Debuts on Tuesday, September 25th at 8:30/7:30 c

A TV Guide’s editor’s pick, this new FOX comedy is one of the sweeter new shows on the fall schedule.  The show features a “Ferris Bueller” type brother moving in with his sister and her young daughter.  In typical comedy fashion, they each find that they have a lot to learn.
